Hands of a Craftsman

Handcrafted in Tasmania.

My name is Jarra and I’m the creator of Jackal Blades, I’m a custom knife maker situated in Tasmania, Australia.

I was born into a creative family, my Father was a furniture designer, my Mother was a fashion designer and my older sister is a jewellery maker. This is part of the reason why I have always been a creative person who is most happy when making something. Throughout my life I have dabbled in many creative areas. I have always loved to challenge myself to make new things and teach myself new skills.

I first started making knives as a hobby with no guidance and very basic tools to work with. As many knife makers do I started with reclaimed materials. While some great knives can be made like this I now use quality steels and tools so I can produce a high quality product.

In 2022 I decided I wanted to cut back my many hobbies to focus my skills on making knives and I created Jackal Blades. Since then I have been further refining my skills and knowledge, while also acquiring the needed equipment and materials to produce handmade knives more efficiently and to a higher standard.

My aim is to create well made high performing culinary knives and I want them to be used and enjoyed all over the world. I personally enjoy the look and feel that a carbon steel blade has, but sometimes prefer the carefree character of a stainless blade which is why I choose to work with both.

I was told at a young age to strive to do better than my best, this has become my motto in life and has made me push to become better with everything that I do, because of this I’m always improving my process and my designs will always evolve as I refine them.

Thank you for finding out a little more about who I am. I hope to get one of my knives into your hands soon so it can be used and enjoyed for generations.
